Hybrid inorganic-organic perovskites
Hybrid inorganic perovskites adopt the well-known perovskite structure motif and exhibit the general formula ABX3, whilst at least one ion – usually A or X – is replaced with a molecular building unit to make the material a hybrid. Such materials, e.g. [CH3NH3]PbI3 and [(NH2)2CH]PbI3 , have recently revolutionised the area of photovoltaics. Similarly, related compounds that well fall within the area of hybrid perovskites, e.g. [(CH3)2NH2]Zn(HCOO)3, [CH3NH3]Mn(N3)3 exhibit fascinating ferroelectric, mechanical and dynmaic behaviour. We are constantly trying to find new materials, paying close attention to the low energy lattice modes that is the foundation of the effects observed in hybrid perovskites.
